What is the FTC Into the Deep Challenge?

Daniel

Competition, General, Into The Deep

In the FIRST Tech Challenge “Into the Deep” game teams assist researchers by collecting samples and specimens from three places: the bottom of the ocean floor, an observation zone, and from inside a 48-inch by 30-inch rectangle called the submersible.

Scoring Samples and Specimens

The rectangle shaped samples are placed in two baskets layered on a single pole in the corner of the field. Human players create specimens by adding clips to samples. The specimens are then placed on the shorter 26 inch side of the submersible on a lower bar or a higher bar called chambers.

At the end of the match each robot may climb or ascend the 44 inch long side of the submersible which consists of a barrier on the ground, a low rung, and high rung.

Each match lasts 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The first 30 seconds include an autonomous period where the robot moves with preprogrammed instructions. In the last 2 minutes of the match the robot is controlled by one or two drivers.

It’s going to be a great season. The ocean awaits!
